Building content

Whole website content based on inventor plugin ecosystem is build upon regular WordPress widgets and shortcodes you should be very familiar with. You don’t need any third party plugin, but feel free to use it if you wish to.

Widgets can be configured in the WP admin > Appearance > Widgets. Defined widget areas are described in the chapter Layout. Some of the widgets and their common settings are mentioned in the Widgets chapter.

You can use theme widgets also in your custom pages using shortcodes. This free plugin might be useful for you.

Most of the shortcodes are self-explanatory. List of the available shortcodes is written in the chapter Shortcodes. Some of them render forms, lists of objects, tables and others just a simple link. Few lines below we will describe purpose of each shortcode and its functionality.

All theme settings can be set in the WP customizer (WP admin > Appearance > Customize). Most of them are described in Settings.

If it is not enough for you, you can use your own CSS to modify original appearance.

Note

Don’t forget to use a child theme for custom modifications.

Booking listings

Listing types like “Hotel” and “Food & Drink” can be booked (to reserve a hotel room or restaurant table). Global booking configuration can be set in the Settings. It is also required to set a listing price, fill in booking configuration for each listing and place a Booking Form widget on the listing detail page (sidebar is suitable area). If you want to enable booking/reservation details on frontend, put a [inventor_booking_detail] into a new page and set it in the Inventor Pages settings in the WP customizer.

Compare listings

Inventor allows users to see listings side by side in comparison table. If you want to enable this functionality, just put a [inventor_compare] shortcode into a new page and set it in the Inventor Pages settings in the WP customizer.

Claiming listings

Once you create a listing in the WP admin, you can let users to claim it. You will receive a new notification about this action and once the Claim request is approved (published in WordPress), the listing author will be changed to a new user. If you also use frontend submission functionality, new author will be able to manage his listing himself directly from his dashboard. Already claimed listings can’t be reclaimed again and they are marked as “verified”. This verification process is up to your communication with your customer.

To enable claiming, you need to create a page with [inventor_claim_form] shortcode and assign it to Claim listing in the Inventor Pages settings in the WP customizer.

Frontend Submission

This functionality is described in its own chapter Submission system.

If you are using frontend submission functionality without admin approval, you should consider placing “Report Form” into your website. Is it possible to do so using [inventor_report_form] shortcode in a new page which has to be set in the Inventor Pages settings in the WP customizer. Once done, a link to this form will be shown automatically on the very bottom of the listing detail page.
